Bellator 225 results: Tyrell Fortune vs. Rudy Schaffroth

On Saturday night, Aug. 24, 2019, Bellator MMA returns to action with Bellator 225. The event takes place at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn.

Kicking off the main card is a battle of unbeaten heavyweights, as well as former wrestling teammates, between Tyrell Fortune and Rudy Schaffroth. Fortune has competed exclusively for Bellator since making his debut in Aug. 2016, winning all six of his appearances. Most recently, the 29-year-old Fortune picked up a first round TKO win over Ryan Pokryfky at Bellator 216 in February.

Schaffroth is also 6-0 as a professional, finishing all of his wins in the very first round. Most recently, Schaffroth defeated Vernon Lewis via first round TKO at Bellator 210 in November.

Here is how the fight went down between Tyrell Fortune and Rudy Schaffroth to kick off the main card of Bellator 225.

ROUND 1

Schaffroth starts off with a super hard leg kick, followed by a jab to the body. Fortune swinging for the fences here, but Schaffroth doing a nice job of staying patient. Fortune lands a punch and shoots in, Schaffroth stuffs it and lands a series of knees to the body. Fortune lands a big leg kick, then falls down after trying to throw a high kick. Fortune drops Schaffroth with a leg kick, and again. Fortune has found a home for those kicks, landing them as much as possible as the round comes to an end.

ROUND 2

Schaffroth is trying to push the pressure, but Fortune is not backing down at all. Big right hand by Fortune lands on Schaffroth. Fortune drops his opponent with a kick and lands a right hand. Fortune landing big shots and takes Schaffroth’s back, applies a rear naked choke and Schaffroth taps out.
