Bellator 235 full results: Toby Misech, Alejandra Lara shine in Hawaii
Bellator MMA returned to Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday night with Bellator 235 and will do so again on Saturday with Bellator 236 — a stacked doubleheader featuring something for every mixed martial arts fan.
In terms of the annual trip to Hawaii for Bellator, the first half of the Honolulu twin bill would lose it’s headliner just hours before it was supposed to take place.
The main event was supposed to see Josh Barnett make his Bellator MMA debut taking on Ronny Markes. Unfortunately, Barnett was not cleared to compete by the commission due to an illness and the fight was cancelled. The news of Barnett’s removal was first reported by MMA Junkie.
The new main event featured the Bellator debut of former UFC standout Erik Perez as he takes on Toby Misech. Despite being an over 2-1 underdog, Misech lived up to his moniker of “2 Quick”, knocking out Perez in the first minute of the fight.
The women’s flyweight division was on display as former title challengers Alejandra Lara and Veta Arteaga attempted to stake their claim for another crack at Bellator gold. They came out fast and furious to open up the pivotal 125-pound matchup, but it was all Lara as she continued to pour on the punishment throughout the fight. A bloodied and battered Arteaga showed her girt and toughness and, somehow, was able to make it to the final horn.
Lara told MyMMANews.com prior to the fight that an impressive performance would be enough to jump the line to a title shot. “Azul” was not able to make weight for the fight so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

The always exciting Tywan Claxton looked to get back to his winning ways as he took on Braydon Akeo. While Akeo had a respectable showing in his organizational debut, a relaxed and methodical Claxton was able to pick up a unanimous decision win and improve to 6-1.
In the main card opener, Joey Davis remained unbeaten when he bloodied and battered 29-fight veteran Chris Cisneros en route to a first round TKO win.
