Bellator Heavyweight Tournament Finals on the East Coast
The Bellator heavyweight tournament will come to a close on the east coast this fall. A weekend doubleheader coming from the promotion features both Ryan Bader vs. Matt Mitrione Friday, October 12 at Mohegan Sun, followed by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Chael Sonnen on October 13 in the promotions first event in Long Island, New York.
Mitrione returns to Connecticut where he won his opening round bout against Roy Nelson to advance in the tournament with a hard-fought decision win. Ryan Bader advanced when he finished Muhammed Lawal at Bellator 199 and Emelianenko reminded fans of his legendary finishing power when knocked out Frank Mir at Bellator 198. Sonnen faced Quinton Rampage Jackson when the tournament started back in January at Bellator 192 where he was able to score a decision win that put him in position to advance.
The organization announced a welterweight tournament earlier this week so it looks like as one is ending to crown a champion, a new one will begin.
Newsday first reported the Long Island event as Nassau Coliseum has been hosting a few MMA events in a short amount of time since it was renovated in April of 2017. Bellator 207 and 208 will produce a math cup that will crown a heavyweight champion at an event likely happening before the end of 2018.
