Ben Askren makes predictions for UFC London main and co-main events

The Octagon is back in London, England for UFC Fight Night 147. In the main event, Darren Till will once again fight on home soil when he takes on Jorge Masvidal. While in the co-main event, Gunnar Nelson is taking on Englishman, Leon Edwards.

Till is coming off of getting dominated at UFC 228 to Tyron Woodley. Till was considered a future champion and Woodley ended the hype train with a dominating performance in which Till didn’t even land one significant strike. Previously though, Till has wins over the likes of Stephen Thompson and Donald Cerrone.

Masvidal meanwhile, hasn’t fought since November 2017 where he lost to Thompson via split-decision. The fight before that, ‘Gamebred’ lost a split-decision to Demian Maia at UFC 211. Before that, he was on a three-fight winning streak with wins over the likes of Cerrone, Jake Ellenberger, and Ross Pearson.

It is widely speculated that the winner of the main event will take on Ben Askren, given Askren is in London to watch the fight and have trash-talked both fighters. Now, Askren gave his predictions for the main and co-main events. (transcript via BJPENN.com).

Gunnar Nelson vs. Leon Edwards: “My prediction for the co-main event tomorrow night is that Gunnar Nelson is just going to be a little too much in the grappling department. I think Leon Edwards is a really good striker, but Gunnar Nelson is just going to overwhelm him with the grappling.”

Darren Till vs. Jorge Masvidal: “For the main event, you have Jorge Masvidal vs. Darren Till. I think they’re both pretty well-rounded strikers. I think Darren Till is going to be a little better, a little bigger, a little younger and he’s going to get the upper hand on Jorge.”

If what Askren says proves to be correct, Askren will be taking on Darren Till most likely sometime in the summer.
