Beneil Dariush announces Charles Oliveira is out of their fight on October 3

Beneil Dariush and Charles Oliveira will not share the Octagon on October 3 after all.

Following Dariush’s highlight-reel knockout win over Scott Holtzman, just days later he was booked to fight Oliveira. It immediately was a fight many were looking forward to. Both men are elite grapplers but both have shown massive improvements in the striking game. The winner of the fight would likely get a top-five opponent next.

However, Dariush took to Instagram on Monday to announce Oliveira is out of their fight.

“Hi everyone. After my fight with Scott Holtzman, the UFC offered me a fight with Charles Oliveira on Oct 3rd. I accepted and so did Charles. I did not announce it because I was waiting on the UFC to announce it and I would follow,” Dariush wrote. “I’ve been informed Charles is out of the fight. I am not sure on the details but I hope all is well with Charles.

“I’m currently working with the UFC to figure out our next step. I will keep you all posted on the details,” he continued. “Finally, even though the fight did not come to fruition I want to thank the UFC, Sean Shelby, and my brother Ali Abdelaziz for setting this up.”

As Dariush wrote, he is currently working with the UFC on his next step. Perhaps he gets a new opponent for Oct. 3 or the promotion just reschedules the Oliveira-Dariush matchup.

Beneil Dariush is currently on a five-fight winning streak including his last four being by stoppage. During this run, he has notable wins over Drew Dober, Frank Camacho, and Drakkar Klose.

Charles Oliveira, meanwhile, is the UFC’s all-time submission leader and on a seven-fight winning streak with all seven wins by finish. The Brazilian is also 8-1 since moving back up to lightweight. Last time out he scored a third-round submission win over Kevin Lee.
