Beneil Dariush “plans on dominating” Charles Oliveira at UFC 289
Top-ranked contender Beneil Dariush says that he “plans on dominating” former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 289.
Dariush was supposed to fight Oliveira last month at UFC 288, but the fight was delayed a month due to an undisclosed injury to Oliveira. Now that he’s ready to go, “Do Bronx” and Dariush will lock horns in the co-main event of UFC 289 next month, with the winner of this pivotal lightweight bout potentially earning a title shot.
Ahead of the fight, Dariush spoke to MMAjunkie.com and was asked how he sees the fight going. The grappling ace knows that Oliveira is a tough foe, but he is convinced that he will be able to dominate the fight and put on a show.
“The focus of this fight is to be perfect. Personally, the way I see it is domination. I plan on dominating this fight. I want to remind people. because I think my last fight was kind of close. … The fight will be an absolute domination, is what it’s going to be. I will do what I plan to do, and there’s nothing he can do to stop it. That’s what I hope for,” Dariush said.
Dariush has won eight fights in a row, while Oliveira had a long win streak snapped last year when he lost his belt to Islam Makhachev. Now these two top-ranked fighters will meet with a potential title shot at 155lbs on the line. Both Dariush and Oliveira are two of the best fighters in the world in their weight class, so the winner of this bout will be more than deserving of getting a crack at the belt. Although it’s the co-main event of UFC 289, to many fans and media, this is actually the most important fight on the card.
