UR Fight, Sunday night’s hybrid event of boxing, mixed martial arts, grappling, and professional wrestling was highlighted by the main event bout between boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. and contest-winning fan/professional MMA fighter, Vyron Phillips.
If Phillips were to defeat Jones he would receive a $10,000 prize. Unfortunately for Phillips he was toyed with by the former world champion and subsequently knocked out in the second round.
UFC middleweight Michael Bisping, coming fresh off a victory over Anderson Silva last month entered into a grappling match with retired mixed martial artist, Chael Sonnen. The two first fought back in 2012 at UFC on FOX 2.
Their first fight ended with Sonnen getting the decision win. This time around striking was not allowed.
The match was contested under Metamoris rules, making a submission the only way to secure a victory. The two men would go the entire twenty minutes and the contest was declared a draw.
Also, on the card, after the mixed martial arts bouts between UFC Hall of Famers Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock tanked out, then a bout between Severn and Tank Abbott also flopped, Severn was completely removed from the card all together.
Shannon Ritch and Mavrick Harvey would step up in a trilogy bout with Ritch sinking in a fight-ending rear-naked choke. The official time of the finish came at 1:32 of the first round.
In the pro wrestling side of the house, Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio had a best of three pinfalls matchup. The first fall would go in favor of Angle due to an Angle Slam. Second to Mysterio as he slammed Angle off the top, and then third went to Mysterio again as special guest rapper RiFF RAFF who also performed at the event, intervened in the contest.
UR Fight was held at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona and available for purchase on pay-per-view.
