Brandon Royval taps Kai Kara France in barnburner

The second stint of “Fight Island” kicks off with UFC 253 tonight, Saturday, Sept. 26.

Headlining the pay-per-view event is a battle of undefeated fighters in UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya and the surging Paulo Costa. The first of two title fights takes place in the co-main event as Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz look to claim the vacant UFC light-heavyweight championship. 

Continuing action on the main card is a battle between two ranked flyweights in Kai Kara-France and Brandon Royval. Kara-France is the winner of nine out of his last 10. His last defeat is was a unanimous decision loss to Brandon Moreno at UFC 245 this past December

The No. 7 ranked flyweight most recently rebounded with a unanimous decision win against Tyson Nam at UFC on ESPN+ 26 this past February.

Royval made his UFC debut back on May 30, tapping out former title challenger Tim Elliott in the second round at UFC on ESPN 9. He is currently riding a three-fight win streak, including victories over Nate Williams and Joby Sanchez.

ROUND 1

The two tap gloves and get right to it. Royval is active with the kicks. Royval slips early. Kara-France rocks Royval, Royval lands a knee, which looks close to illegal. Kara-France drops for a takedown. Royval attempts an omaplota. Kara-France is staying patient. Royval still has the arm. Kara France able to adjust and escapes the attack. Royval ends up on top. Royval takes the back of Kara France. Kara France scrambles and gets to his feet. Royval just misses with a head kick, lands a spinning-back elbow. Royval lands another knee, Kara France counters with a right hand. Royval hurts Kara France with a knee. Royval attacks the neck with a guillotine. Kara Franc escapes and they are back on their feet. Royval slips on another head kick. Both men trading, Kara France lands a right hook. Royval comes forward, eats another right hook. Kara France clinches and puts Royval against the cage. Royval lands a leg kick and Kara France lands a right as the round ends.

They tap gloves again, Royval attacks with his legs. Royval pressuring. Royval lands a knee to the body, being really busy. Kara France looks for a takedown. Royval sinks in a guillotine. Kara France tries to shake off Royval, but Royval readjusts and gets the tap.
