Brendan Allen talks upcoming fight, UFC rankings and roadmap to title shot
Brendan Allen isn’t afraid to say how he feels and ahead of his fight this weekend at UFC on ABC 5, the middleweight contender has a lot to say.
After opening 2023 with a main event win, Allen was supposed to get a matchup to get himself into the top 10 in another main event spot against Jack Hermansson.
Unfortunately, Hermansson pulled out of the fight and Allen decided since he was sick, that he’d just fight a few weeks later at UFC on ABC 5.
Allen was all set on Hermansson, but now after he pulled out of the fight and was seen rock climbing with his wife shortly after his withdrawal, Allen no longer has any interest in fighting him.
Instead, Allen is all dialed in on his UFC on ABC 5 opponent Bruno Silva.
Silva has some serious power and Allen knows if he’s not careful, he can get knocked out, but he doesn’t foresee that happening.
Allen feels he can win the standup battle and he feels that his wrestling and ground game is way better than Silva’s and if he gets Silva to canvas, then he’s going to finish the fight.
If Allen gets the win, he wants his body of work to finally start speaking for itself.
Right now, Allen is on a four-fight winning streak and is 9-2 in the UFC. Yet, despite looking great since earning his UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series, Allen hasn’t gotten the credit he deserves.
After his win earlier in the year, Allen finally got a ranking next to his name and he felt he should of had one earlier than when he did.
He also was planning on getting into the top 10 after this fight and getting a big-time matchup with the loser of Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis or Jared Cannonier.
Allen feels like a win on Saturday and a win in his next fight should get him a title fight and he wants to make that vision a reality.
Of course at the end of the day, Allen knows how the sport can be and he doesn’t have the biggest following but knows one day everything will work itself out.
Ahead of his fight this weekend, Allen spoke with MyMMANews about his matchup with Silva, his thoughts on the UFC ranking system and his future plans.
