Brian Ortega reveals he had successful shoulder surgery, vows to not let time off take him ‘into dark places’
Brian Ortega underwent successful shoulder surgery recently.
Ortega was headlining UFC Long Island on July 16 against Yair Rodriguez and in the first round his shoulder popped out and the fight was stopped. It was a disappointing way for the scrap to end and after the fight, he confirmed he had shoulder surgery and would need to undergo surgery.
Now, Ortega took to Instagram to confirm he had the surgery and it was successful. He also vowed not to let the operation and time off take him into dark places which have been the case in previous times.

“Bout a month in a half ago I had my shoulder operated on . I usually sit around and let these operations (cause I’ve had a few ) take me into dark places. Not this time, I will remain working with the things I can do and keep working hard and staying at it. Thank you for those who ride with me,” Ortega wrote on Instagram.
At this time, it’s uncertain when Ortega will be able to return to the Octagon. It will likely be several months on the sideline and will then have to rehab before he is able to fight again, so likely late first quarter or early second quarter he will be able to fight again.
Brian Ortega (15-3 and one No Contest) is on a two-fight losing streak as before the loss to Rodriguez he suffered a decision loss to Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title. He’s currently ranked third at featherweight and before the losses, he defeated Chan Sung Jung by decision to return to the win column after he lost to Max Holloway for the featherweight belt. In the UFC, he’s 7-3 and one No Contest and has notable wins over Frankie Edgar, Cub Swanson, Renato Moicano, and Clay Guida.
