Official Result: Bryan Barberena def. Matt Brown via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

The bout starts and the two are trading leg kicks, before beginning to let their hands go. Barberena comes in too close for one of those combinations however, and Brown hits a beautiful foot sweep on him.

After some control time for Brown on the mat, both men are back to their feet.

This was a very active first round with both parties having success.

Barberena is controlling the center to begin the second, and is landing some nice leg kicks. However, Brown times another takedown beautifully, this time a double leg.

Once they’re back to their feet they trade elbows along the fence, before going back to kickboxing range.

Barberena hurts Brown with a nasty elbow and swarms him, only to be double legged and put on his back again.

Barberena’s right back to his feet though, and they’re back to trading elbows again.

Brown then stuns Barberena and follows up, though Barberena’s still in the fight throwing back.

We knew this was going to be a straight up dogfight, and it is.

Brown secures another foot sweep takedown in the third, as well as a couple more double legs, only he didn’t stay on top long. He was in Barberena’s face the whole time they were on the feet, catching him with a variety of vicious shots, though Barberena landed a lot of nasty shots himself.

Barberena finishes the fight in Brown’s grill teeing off, this was a very close fight. What a war!

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
