UFC Vegas 80, Bryce Mitchell, Dan Ige

Bryce Mitchell vs Dan Ige added to UFC Vegas 80 on September 23

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to the UFC Apex in early fall for UFC Vegas 80.

UFC Vegas 80 is to go down on September 23, 2023, live from Enterprise, Nevada.

We’ve got a very intriguing featherweight affair to look forward to at this event, as no. 12 ranked Bryce Mitchell (15-1) is scheduled to face no. 13 ranked Dan Ige (17-6).

Mitchell suffered the first defeat of his professional career in his most recent bout back in December of last year at UFC 282, where he was submitted (arm-triangle choke) by undefeated phenom Ilia Topuria. Prior to that however he’d gone 6-0 inside the octagon with victories over the likes of Tyler Diamond (MD), Bobby Moffett (UD), Matt Sayles (twister), Charles Rosa (UD), Andre Fili (UD), and Edson Barboza (UD).

Now Mitchell aims to face and defeat another elite grappler in Dan Ige; he’s gone 2-1 against BJJ black belts thus far into his UFC tenure, defeating both Bobby Moffett and Charles Rosa, but losing to Topuria.

Following defeat to Julio Arce (UD) in his UFC debut, Ige would go on to win his next six-straight contests against the likes of Mike Santiago (TKO), Jordan Griffin (UD), Danny Henry (rear naked choke), Kevin Aguilar (UD), Mirsad Bektic (SD), and Edson Barboza (SD).

Ige would go 1-4 over his next five outings however, losing to Calvin Kattar (UD), defeating Gavin Tucker (KO), and then dropping three-straight to Chan Sung Jung (UD), Josh Emmett (UD), and Movsar Evloev (UD).

Since then, however Ige has won his last two-straight over the likes of Damon Jackson (KO), who’d gone 5-1 since returning to the octagon, and Nate Landwehr (UD), who came in on a three-fight win streak.

It could be assumed Ige is the better striker of the two, but should this fight hit the mat, things could get very interesting. Who walks away from this featherweight bout going down at UFC Vegas 80 the victor?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
