Bryce Mitchell wrestles Andre Fili to decision win

Bryce Mitchell made his game plan quite clear in his unanimous decision win against Andre Fili at UFC on ESPN+ 39 on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Mitchell completed seven takedown, dominating the majority of grappling positions inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. “Thug Nasty” sported the camouflage shorts  while improving to a perfect 14-0.

The UFC returns to the United States on Halloween night at UFC on ESPN+ 39, Saturday, Oct. 31.

Anderson Silva makes his final walk to the octagon in a middleweight headliner against Uriah Hall at the UFC in Las Vegas, Nevada. The co-main event is a featherweight clash between two exciting contenders in Bryce Mitchell and Andre Fili. 

[PREVIEW YOUR FIGHT] Mitchell puts his undefeated record on the line Saturday night. A member of Team Cormier on “The Ultimate Fighter” season 27, the No. 15 ranked UFC featherweight is coming off four-straight wins inside the octagon.

He most recently came away with a unanimous decision nod against Charles Rosa at UFC 249 back in May. “Thug Nasty” also took home a “Performance of the Night” bonus with his first-round twister submission against Matt Sayles at UFC on ESPN 7 this past December.

Fili is known for bringing the fight to his opponents in his own right. A winner of three of his last four, Fili is coming off a split decision win over Charles Jourdain at UFC on ESPN 10 this past June.

Bryce Mitchell takes fight to the floor

ROUND 1

Both men rush to the center, are active right away. Fili lands a leg kick early. Mitchell wearing the highly-anticipated cam shorts. Mitchell scores an early takedown. Fili is on his back with Mitchell in half guard. Fili is trying to use his feet to sweep Mitchell. Mitchell transitions to full mount. Mitchel is in Fili’s half guard. Fili sweeps and gets to his feet. Mitchell stays glued to Fili and puts his opponent against the cage. Mitchell takes Fili down again. Mitchel lands some short punches tot he body from the top position. Fili on his back as Mitchell moves to side control. Fili tries to scramble, but give up his back. Mitchell attacks the back, but Fili turns back to his back. Micthell is dominating position on the ground, not landing a ton of strikes though. Mitchell transitions to full mount again. Fili scrambles and Micthell looks for a triangle. Fili stays on his feet and Mitchell stands up. Seconds later, Mitchell earns another takedown. Horn sounds. Mitchell controlled the round from the mat.

ROUND 2

Both men opt to stay on the feet early in round two. Mitchell lands a right hand, but Fili counters with a right of his own. Fili attempts a flying knee as Mitchell comes forward, misses. Mitchell eats a jab. Micthell drops for takedown, keeps Fili against the cage. Mitchell lands a knee up to the middle of the body as Fili comes off the cage. Fili lands a right to the body. Mitchell pops a jab and shoots for a takedown. Fili defending the takedown well so far. There it is, Mitchell gets the takedown. Mitchell is in Fili’s half guard on the canvas. It is very clear what the game plan is for both fighters. Classic striker vs. grappler so far. Fili tries to trap the head, but Mitchell is looking for a von flue choke. Mitchell moves to side control. Mitchell is not landing man strikes on the ground, but controls position. Fili gets to his feet. Fili takes a kick tot he body, but gets the better of Mitchell on his feet late. All tied up here.

Could come down to this round. Mitchell scores an early takedown in round three, Fili wraps his leg around Mitchell for full guard. Micthell steps over into half guard. Fili fights off his back, readjusts to full guard. FIli gets to his feet, but Mitchell dumps Fili right to the floor. Mitchell batters the body with short left hands. Fili rolls and sweeps Mitchell. Fili gets to his feet. Mitchell sticks tot he script and lands his seventh takedown of the fight. Mitchel is in Fili’s full guard. Fili lands a short right hand from his back. Mitchell brings down some short elbows. Both men fighting for position. Mitchell transitions to full guard, but Fili shakes his leg back to half guard. Fili takes some shots from full guar. Fili looking for a triangle choke. Mitchell landing more strikes from the bottom position then rounds one and two. Fili gets to feet fast, but Mitchell takes him down again. Fili gets busy with punches from his butt. Mitchell is bleeding from above his right eye, but did enough to get his hand raised.
