BYB 15’s Joshua Oxendine – “At 135 (pounds), I’m the man”
Joshua Oxendine tests skills with Cody Jenkins at BYB 15: Broward Brawl on February 3rd.
Oxendine appeared on Bowks Talking Bouts to discuss his history with this replacement opponent, his timeline to carve out a path toward becoming BYB Extreme’s first-ever male titleholder at 135 pounds, and more. Excerpts from our chat are below.

Having his opponent switch from Jeremiah Potts and his prior history with Jenkins
“Yeah, I had to change just a little bit. Just because Potts is a boxer. But Jenkins is more of a Muay Thai guy. So he keeps his hands a different way than most boxers. So it’s just trying to adjust to that but I’ve fought Cody before. I beat him in MMA. So nothing to it. I’m just gonna go in there and do what I do, man and hopefully get the same result.”
Oxendine continued, “He’s a good guy, man. Cody Jenkins, he’s a good dude. Family man, a husband, a father, just like me, man. He’s going in there to handle his business just like I’m going to. We’re going to go out, put on a war, and then we’re going to shake hands afterward, man. No hard feelings or nothing. We just got a job to do and I’m going to do my job just a little bit better.”

The BYB Extreme lightweight gold being presently vacant and Oxendine’s title aspirations at 135 pounds which would lead him to cement himself as the company’s first-ever male champion in that weight category
“2023 is my year, man. I’m going to put everybody on notice. Let everybody know that at 135, I’m the man. I’m trying to collect belts, collect cheques, and get paid, man. It’s all about taking care of my family and that’s the only goal.”
“The goal is if I finish Cody really quick, man and put a highlight on him, I’m trying to do it in Rock Hill. My town, my city where I went undefeated last year in boxing and bare-knuckle. So that’s in May. So hopefully I finish Jenkins pretty quick and then I can get that call to fight whoever, whenever, and however it may. I’m ready to rock and roll, man. I’m feeling good, weight’s feeling good. I feel strong. I’ve just got to go out there and do what I do, man. If I just do what I do and leave the rest to God, I’ll come out victorious.”
