Caged Thunder 23 set with Andrew Law vs. Julian Lane
A bout originally scheduled to happen a decade ago will finally go down this weekend, as Andrew Law and Julian Lane are set to headline Caged Thunder 23. The event takes place at Chapparells Event Center in Akron, Ohio and features a total of four professional bouts.
Law is set to compete for the first time since 2019, when he came up short in a fight of the year contender against Aaron Highbaugh at Honor FC 10 in Cleveland. Prior to that loss, he had reeled off seven consecutive victories dating to 2015. He now returns with an 11-5 overall record, and as a respected coach at Route 250 Martial Arts, a gym that has been producing some of the best up-and-coming talent in Ohio over the past few years.
Law will face the well-traveled Lane, a Mansfield, Ohio native who has made a name for himself in the bareknuckle boxing world after an infamous run on The Ultimate Fighter 25 where he uttered his now famous “Let me bang, bro” line. Lane has just one MMA bout since 2018, a loss at XMMA 5 in 2022. But he has notable wins over Jeff Lentz, Antonio Castillo Jr., Joey Holt, and Joe Heiland on his record.
Also set for the event is a pro welterweight bout pitting Law’s protégé Brogan Endres (2-1) against Myles “Hershey” Robinson (3-0) in a battle of fast-rising talents. Endres is coming off of an impressive win over Melvin Harris at Caged Thunder 20, while Robinson has yet to taste defeat as a pro with three violent stoppages.
An intriguing middleweight bout is also set, as Strong Style Fight Team’s Walter “Scotty” Sy Savane makes his pro debut after a 5-1 run against Kentucky’s David Richardson. The Derby City MMA product comes in off of a decision victory in his first pro outing from May.
A fourth pro bout will see the return of Akron’s Dornes “KO” Butler (1-3) against William “Tussel” Conner Jr. (2-4) of Dayton, Ohio.
The amateur card is deep as well and is headlined by a lightweight title bout featuring Devon Watkins (4-2) against Mike LeFay (3-1). The 20-year-old Victory MMA product Watkins has four first-round knockout wins will LeFay comes in from Pennsylvania with three first round submission victories.
Two fighters with high level wrestling credentials will also square off at lightweight, as Notre Dame College prospect Jordon Tague (2-0) faces former Cleveland State wrestler Nico O’Dor (3-0).
The event streams live via PPV at CagedThunderMMA.com.
