Former UFC and Bellator fighter Chael Sonnen was hit with five battery citations after allegedly getting in a brawl at a hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night according to a report from TMZ. The 44-year-old retired mixed martial artist and promoter of Submission Underground was detained but not arrested in the incident.
Police are still investigating what took place but witnesses have told police that they saw Sonnen banging on the door of a hotel room at the Four Seasons hotel around 7 PM (local time) on Saturday night. The report states that a physical altercation broke out between Sonnen and a couple that he had encountered.
Paramedics also responded to the call, per TMZ, but no injuries have been reported.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who has long been a rival of Sonnen, posted response to the incident earlier today.
“Chael Sonnen, I’m not gonna sit here and celebrate you getting battery charges against a female last night. That would make me like you, and I’m nothing like you. Instead I will wish your family well, I wish the victims family well.
“It’s funny how the people who criticize and judge you the most have some of the nastiest things in their closet. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. You’ll get no stones from me. Good luck.”

Jones recently had his own domestic battery case dismissed but not before Sonnen went public to criticize Jones, which ultimately prompted “Bones” to make statement today.
Sonnen who retired from MMA with a professional record of 31-17-1, currently works as a member of Bellator’s commentary team and as a UFC analyst for ESPN.
