Chris Daukaus issues statement following KO loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC Vegas 45

UFC heavyweight contender Chris Daukaus issued a statement following his KO loss to Derrick Lewis at this past Saturday’s UFC Vegas 45.

Daukaus suffered a first-round knockout loss at the hands of Lewis in the main event of UFC Vegas 45. Although Daukaus was the betting favorite heading into the fight, it was “The Black Beast” who landed early and often, taking Daukaus out with punches for his first UFC loss. Although Daukaus has lost before on the regional circuit, this was the first time he suffered a defeat inside the Octagon. But due to the experience of having experienced what losing feels like before, Daukaus is still holding his head up high.

Taking to Twitter, the day after Lewis knocked him out at UFC Vegas 45, Daukaus issued a statement online where he congratulated his opponent on the win and thanked the UFC for the opportunity.

Well that’s the fight game for ya. Thank you to everyone who has supported me from the beginning, it means the world. Thank you to the @ufc & @Thebeast_ufc for granting me the opportunity to prove myself on the biggest stage. Now for some pizza and wings!

Despite the loss, Daukaus is still ranked in the top-10 at heavyweight and his overall record of 4-1 in the UFC with four knockouts is still quite solid. As we saw against Lewis, it was too much too soon for Daukaus, who is still growing as a mixed martial artist. Lewis, meanwhile, is very much in the prime of his MMA career. So losing to “The Black Beast” is not the end of the world for Daukaus, who figures to take a few months off to rest and recover. When he does return, expect him to get a top-15 ranked opponent.

What do you think is next for Chris Daukaus after suffering a brutal KO loss to Derrick Lewis?
