Chael Sonnen discusses Weili Zhang vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk

The MMA world has been buzzing nonstop ever since UFC President Dana White teased a strawweight championship fight between current champ Weili Zhang and former strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Now one of the best analysts in the sport has expressed his interest in the possible 2020 match up.
Chael Sonnen posted a video on his YouTube channel, which he titled “It’s about time…Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk.”
Sonnen opened his video by stating that Jedrzejczyk is one of the biggest stars in the sport.
“Joanna is one of those girls that just has the it factor,” said Sonnen. “You want to see her interviews, you want to her stare downs, you want to see in weigh ins…It’s much more than the punches and the kicks.”
Sonnen noted that he realized JJ’s star power in the lead up to her first championship fight in 2015.
Following his words on Jedrzejczyk he went into the history between the two fighters that flew under the radar.
“Joanna was offered the Weili fight three times. Now we never knew that. Joanna came out and offered that and said ‘I said no all three times.”
Jedrzejczyk’s decision to not originally accept the fight surprised Sonnen, but he understands her reasoning due to Zhang being an unknown fighter prior to winning the belt.
Sonnen, who ranked this fight as a top 10 must see fight in 2020 in a previous video, then went onto Zhang’s position in this fight.
“When you look at Weili there is a question of ‘What do we do here?’ First off, you need a contender. Rose [Namajunas] appears to be out for an indefinite period…Joanna has done some very heavy lifting and appears to be the one doing the fighting.”
After going through Zhang’s run in the sport by coming through a communist country, Uncle Chael wrapped up by saying his peace.
“It looks like Weili and Joanna are going to fight and in my opinion it’s about time.”
