CFFC 80 results – Mike Rhodes vs. Najim Wali

Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) officials are holding the promotion’s first “Fight for the Troops” event, and Virginia’s Joint Base Langley-Eustis will play host to the Nov. 22, CFFC 80 card, which streams live on UFC FIGHT PASS.  The action begins at 9:30 pm ET.

While the event served a great purpose in supporting our nation’s men and women, the broadcast did have difficulties as the UFC Fight Pass stream kept buffering and cutting out, missing part of several of the fights.  This was likely due to the location of the event, an active U.S. military base.

In the night’s main event, three-time UFC veteran Mike “Biggie” Rhodes (12-6) took on heavy-handed knockout artist Najim “The Afghan Rock” Wali (6-4) for the vacant CFFC light heavyweight title.

A member of Wisconsin’s famed Roufusport gym, Rhodes competed as a middleweight during his time in the UFC, even taking former champ Robert Whittaker the distance before falling short on the cards. However, he has since moved up to light heavyweight and is now hoping to secure CFFC gold in his promotional debut. On the other side of the cage, Wali also competes in the CFFC for the first time, but he brings with him a track record that shows proof of his destructive capabilities, with all six of his career wins coming by way of stoppage, including a pair of first-round knockouts that each lasted 66 seconds or less. In fact, Wali has never seen a fight go to the scorecards during his seven-year pro run.

It was in the second frame that the Roufusport prospect Rhodes would floor his opponent to the claim the title.

An absolutely incredible third round comeback for Christian Leonard who almost lost the fight after a doctor entered the cage to take a look at him. Once the physician said Leonard was cleared to fight, he let loose, tagging D’Juan Owens, and finishing the fight.

What a knockout in the opening fight of the night.  Will Spann III lays Jordan DeJesus out with a headkick in under 20 seconds in the very first round.
