LFA 79: Brandon Royval vs. Nate Williams – Live Results

LFA 79 has the Legacy Fighting Alliance bringing their second event to its new home on UFC Fight Pass. The main event will feature Brandon Royval (9-4) versus Nate Williams (29-18) for the flyweight title. Royval has been circling the title for quite some time and fighting close to home may boost the LFA favorite’s odds in his fight tonight. However, Williams brings a lot of experience to the cage and with the chance at winning a title, could bring his A-game to Colorado tonight. LFA CEO Ed Soares calls Williams, “one of the most experienced fighters in the flyweight division.”

Originally, Royval was to face Justin Scoggins but Scoggins was forced to withdraw due to injury according to LFA. The 31-year-old scrapper Williams immediately answered the call when given the opportunity to replace Scoggins for a shot at the title.

One fight of note, Carlos Mota’s win over George Martinez used instant replay. It was nice to see the rule and technology put play in favor of the fighter’s clear win. There was uncertainty as to what dropped Martinez, a groin shot or a body shot, but when an experienced veteran like Pat Miletich is cage-side, you see why it’s good to have fighters in that role.

There were quite a few knock out finishes at LFA 79, many highlight-worthy but this flying knee by Youssef Zalal will likely be making the rounds this weekend.

The main event crowned a new champion in only 23 seconds when Royval submitted Williams in only 23 seconds. Getting a title in LFA, usually means the UFC will likely be looking to call the fighter holding the title soon. “I wasn’t going to lose, I wasn’t going to be denied this anymore,” Royval said in his post-fight interview. Check out the quick submission finish here:

LFA 79 was the seventh time that LFA has traveled to the state of Colorado.

LFA 79 aired live and nationwide on UFC FIGHT PASS at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.
