Ciryl Gane vs. Ante Delija off UFC Fight Island 6 due to contract issues

UFC Fight Island 6 has lost its co-main event as Ciryl Gane vs. Ante Delija is off.

French outlet, LaSueur.com, reported the fight is off due to contract issues on Delija’s side as he was previously with the PFL before this.

Ciryl Gane is considered the top heavyweight prospect in the UFC and many fans were looking forward to his return. He has been scheduled to compete four times in 2020 but the pandemic and injuries to Shamil Abdurakhimov and Sergey Pavlovich and now the contract issues have canceled the fights.

The 29-year-old in Gane is a perfect 6-0 in his career including being 3-0 inside the Octagon. In his UFC debut, the Frenchman scored a submission win over Raphael Pessoa and then followed it up with a heel hook submission win over Don’Tale Mayes. Last time out, he had the biggest win of his career as he beat Tanner Boser by decision at UFC Busan last December.

Ante Delija, meanwhile, is coming off a decision win over Oli Thompson in KSW. Before that, he beat Carl Seumanutafa in PFL. He is currently on a three-fight winning streak and is 17-3 as a pro and many pundits thought this was going to be a tough test for Gane.

As of right now, it is unknown if the UFC will look to rebook this matchup for a future date or get Gane a new opponent so he can get back into the Octagon. Regardless, it is disappointing news for the UFC to have Gane pulled just days before the fight.

UFC Fight Island 6 is now as follows:

  • Modestas Bukauskas vs. Jimmy Crute
  • Thomas Almeida vs. Jonathan Martinez
  • Mateusz Gamrot vs. Guram Kutateladze
  • Poliana Botelho vs. Gillian Robertson
  • James Krause vs. Claudio Silva
  • Jun Yong Park vs. John Phillips
  • Jamie Mullarkey vs. Fares Ziam
