Claudia Gadelha talks new gym and fight with Joanna on TUF 23 set
Number one ranked UFC strawweight contender Claudia Gadelha (13-1) talks to MyMMANews.com about her new gym in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, and what happened when TUF 23 cameras were off.
Gadelha, will rematch current UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk on the season finale of the Ultimate Fighter season 23, in Las Vegas, July 8. The first time the two 115-pound mixed martial artists fought was at UFC on FOX 13 in December 2014. The bout was declared a split decision in favor of Jedrzejczyk although many felt the fight should have been ruled in Gadelha’s favor. It was the only loss of the Brazilian’s mixed martial arts career.
Jedrzejczyk then moved on to fight Carla Esparza for the title, and the rest is history.
Now with the title on the line, Gadelha promises a different outcome in the rematch.
“I am 100 percent sure that I will have the chance to knock her out or submit her,” Gadelha said.
Two days after appearing at special UFC International Fight Week press conference in Las Vegas, Gadelha was on the east coast for appearances and the grand opening of her new gym, Claudia Gadelha MMA & BJJ Academy in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Gadelha partned with MMA Signatures founder, A.J. Hiller, and together the two have formed what promises to be the biggest mixed martial arts school in the Poconos.
“His (Hiller’s) kids used to drive one hour (each way) to train BJJ. We talked about doing something like that (a BJJ school) here,” she said.
“The city really need it, and I think it’s a good time of my life to open a gym in the U.S., and this is the best place,” Gadelha said.
Claudia Gadelha’s MMA & BJJ Academy is located at 564 Main Street, Stroudsburg, PA. You can contact them at 1-570-980-2662 (2MMA) or visit them on Facebook.
