Clay Guida calls out Nate Diaz after submitting Leonardo Santos: ‘You can’t run, you can’t hide’
Clay Guida is hoping to rematch Nate Diaz after he pulled off a surprising submission win over Leonardo Santos.
Guida was the betting underdog against Santos and early on, it looked like it wasn’t going to be a good night for him. Santos had him rocked badly and nearly knocked him out but somehow, Guida survived. After the flurry of punches, Santos was gassed and the Team Alpha Male veteran was able to start to take over, and eventually, in the second round, he pulled off the submission win.
Now, after the win, Clay Guida says he wants to remain active and there is one fight he really wants and that is a rematch against Nate Diaz. Of course, they fought back at UFC 94 where Guida won by split decision which was the Fight of the Night.
“We just want to stay on the gas pedal,” Guida said at the post-fight press conference. “Stay active and there’s still one dude out there with our name on him. I beat him once. I’ll give him another chance. Nate Diaz, I know you’re out there. You can’t run. You can’t hide. I know you’re going to turn the fight down and probably won’t even know that we want to fight you, but if you ever want to do it again, buddy, I’ll give you a shot at it. Let me know.”
Although Guida called out Diaz, it seems unlikely the Stockton native has any interest in the fight. Diaz has one fight left on his UFC contract and has been calling out big names, or could be holding out for the trilogy with Conor McGregor. He also has been fighting at welterweight, so Guida would have to move up in weight.
If Diaz doesn’t accept Guida’s callout, the hope for the veteran is to fight again soon against whoever the UFC gives him.
