Cody Garbrandt out of UFC Columbus with kidney issues
The highly anticipated return of former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt will have to wait.
Garbrandt told ESPN that he has withdrawn from his March 28 fight with Raphael Assuncao due to kidney issues.
The 28-year-old has been hospitalized in New Jersey since last week and he is currently on his way to Cleveland to see a specialist.
While “No Love” would like to get back in the octagon as soon as possible, there is no time frame on his return. Garbrandt told ESPN that his recent health issues started with cellulite in his shin. After he was cleared from the shin injury with antibiotics, his lymph nodes inflamed in his groin and then he began feeling flu like symptoms and had blood in his urine.
According to Garbrandt he is feeling better, however the doctors still haven’t been able to diagnose the issue.
The former champion also made note of this issue on his Instagram account. Garbrandt’s Instagram story showed a picture of him at the hospital, his blood stained urine sample and a thank you message to his fans.
The last time Cody Garbrandt fought was March 2019, in which he lost to Pedro Munhoz. He is currently on a three fight losing streak, losing two fights to T.J. Dillashaw prior to the Munhoz bout. Garbrandt is still hoping to fight Assuncao in his return fight.
