Colby Covington explains why Gilbert Burns will score “easy win” over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington explained why Gilbert Burns will score an “easy win” over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287.

Covington and Masvidal were once close friends and former roommates, but they are now bitter rivals. They fought last year at UFC 272, with Covington winning a clear decision that now puts him in line to fight UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards sometime later this year. But before that title fight happens, Masvidal will take on Burns in an intriguing matchup at UFC 287.

However, according to Covington, he doesn’t think it’s an interesting fight at all, and rather he sees it as being a lopsided victory for the Brazilian Burns. Speaking on Michael Bisping’s “Believe You Me” podcast, Covington suggested that Masvidal will be an easy win on Burn’s resume. The betting odds agree with Covington’s prediction, as Burns is currently a -450 favorite to win the fight.

“Jorge is a broken man. He’s not the same fighter after I destroyed him, beat him 50-44 with a soda. Obviously, he’s had emotional letdown. His life is unraveling. Look at obviously what he came and did. The guy, he’s done a lot of drugs and just a lot of things that have rotted his brain and his body. You could tell he’s just not the same person. I just see ‘Dilbert’ (Burns) getting an easy win,” Covington said (via MMAjunkie.com).

UFC president Dana White has already said Covington is next in line to fight Edwards for the belt, but there are some fans who think Burns could sneak past him if he has an impressive performance against Masvidal. However, while Covington is picking Burns to win, he doesn’t think it will be enough to pass him for a title shot.

“Gilbert’s a nice guy, family guy. He’s not Colby Covington, so he’s not going to get a title shot off of beating ‘Street Judas’ (Masvidal). But the thing is, he’s going to be one or two fights away after he beats ‘Street Judas,’ and he’s going to be close,” Covington said.

Do you agree with Colby Covington that Gilbert Burns will easily beat Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287?
