Coronavirus Chaos, colby covington

Colby Covington reacts to potential Israel Adesanya middleweight fight: “He can’t stop my wrestling”

UFC welterweight Colby Covington reacted to a potential Israel Adesanya middleweight title fight fight, saying “he can’t stop my wrestling.”

Covington is in a strange position right now in the UFC welterweight division because he has lost twice to the champion, UFC welterweight champ Kamaru Usman, but he has beaten nearly everyone else in his weight class. Since a trilogy fight with Usman likely won’t happen anytime soon, fans and media have suggested that Covington could make the move up to middleweight, where the champ Adesanya is always looking for new challengers. To this point, Covington has maintained that he wants to stay at welterweight, but it appears there is now the real possibility of him moving up a weight class.

Speaking to Submission Radio in a recent interview, Covington confirmed he is interested in moving up to 185lbs to fight Adesanya. As far as “Chaos” goes, it would be an easy fight against someone who can’t deal with his wrestling abilities.

“I think I can definitely go up to 185 and fight Adesanya. But I don’t know if he’s gonna turn around like that. But he doesn’t have a dance partner right now. I mean, some of the guys they’re trying to line him up with, it’s unoriginal. Why can (Kamaru) Usman fight him and all the fans want that, but the guy that beat Usman – I beat Usman. I beat Usman twice. Usman sucks, dude. Everybody knew in Madison Square Garden I won those last three rounds,” Covington said (h/t MMAjunkie.com).

“It was an easy win for me, easy decision victory. Unanimous. So, why can’t I fight Adesanya? He can’t stop my wrestling. I’ll pick him up and drop him on his f*cking head. He’s a cardio kickboxer. They got enough cardio kickboxers in women’s classes around the U.S. Like, I could go join one of those as well, but I decided to pick up hard grueling American wrestling. So, I don’t think Adesanya could stop my American wrestling, and I don’t think he’s that good a fighter.”

Covington is coming off of a decision win over Jorge Masvidal in his last fight, while Adesanya just beat Robert Whittaker.

Who do you think would win a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Colby Covington?
