Colby Covington to Edwards: “We’ll say what’s up to your dad while we’re there”

“On Saturday night, I’m going to bring you to a place you never want to be. I’m going to bring you to the seventh level of hell. We’ll say what’s up to your dad while we’re there.” That’s what Colby Covington said to Leon Edwards at last nights UFC 296 press conference. Too far?

Leon Edwards thinks so as he threw a water bottle at Covington and forced security to hold Edwards back, just what Covington wanted.

Colby Covington’s risqué trash talk

This may be a bit too far from some. But those that followed Colby Covington for any amount of time will know that this isn’t anything new.

From the birth of the character that is Covington, it was apparent that cutting promos that pushed the line was going to be the new norm for “Chaos.”

After beating Demian Maia, Covington told an all-Brazilian crowd that they were all filthy animals and they lived in a dump. Getting all the boos and trash thrown at him, Covington got exactly what he wanted: attention.

Time went on and it got worse. Unflattering nicknames became Covington’s new thing. In the vein of Donald Trump, he came up with “Cumshot Chimaev,” “Marty Fakenewsman,” and “Phony Montana.” These were for Khamzat Chimaev, Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal respectively.

In the aftermath of his win over Robbie Lawler, Covington pushed the boundaries again.

“Let’s talk about the lesson that we learned tonight. It’s a strong lesson that Robbie should have learned from his good buddy Matt Hughes. You stay off the tracks when the train is coming through, junior. Doesn’t matter if it’s the Trump train or the Colby train, get out the way.”

Matt Hughes had a suicide attempt sitting on the train tracks waiting to be hit.

Telling Leon Edwards that we will see his dad, who was shot and killed in a club shooting, that we will see him in hell is the latest in his antics. But with his history, should we be surprised?
