Cinco de Mayo MMA – Combate 14 Results: Estrada vs. Chavez

Tonight on Cinco de Mayo, Combate Americas, will hold Combate 14 from the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, California. Combate Americas is the first U.S. Hispanic MMA sports franchise in history, designed to build Latino fighting champions and serve Hispanic fans.

The broadcast aired LIVE on Azteca America.  Although the fight card lineup was changed around unexpectedly the with the co-main and main events taking place much earlier than expected, the fights delivered.

Yesterday at weigh-ins it was announced that all fighters will be awarded a $1000 post-fight bonus for finishing their fights.  The main event tonight was a lightweight match between Jose “Froggy” Estrada and Emilio Chavez.  It didn’t take long for the underdog in Chavez to sink in the first round submission win.

In the evening’s co-main event, former Ultimate Fighter contestant and UFC standout Chris Beal took on Combate Americas star John “Sexi Mexi” Castaneda.  The last time fans saw Castaneda he won a fight against Gustavo Lopez but was unable to claim the Combate bantamweight title after failing to make weight.  Tonight he took out Beal with a second round TKO and could potentially have earned himself another crack at the title.
