Conor McGregor addresses injury – “The decision to postpone the fight was not made lightly”

Just days after the UFC officially announced that Conor McGregor would not be fighting in the UFC 303 main event against Michael Chandler later this month, the famed MMA fighter has released a statement.

“Very tough to be ruled out of my scheduled return bout. I picked up an injury prior to the press conference that required more time to heal than was available to me. The decision to postpone the fight was not made lightly, but one made in consultation with my doctors, the UFC, and my team. My fans and opponent deserve me at my best for this fight and we will get there! Thank you for the messages of support, I am in good spirits and confident I’ll be back! ☘️”

McGregor’s injury has not yet been disclosed, and it comes approximately three years after he broke his leg in a trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier.

With McGregor injured, UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will defend his belt for the second time in as many months as he takes on Jiří Procházka on June 29.

Pereira, who defended his 205-pound title against Jamahal Hill in UFC 300’s main event, makes the quick turnaround against a former champion Jiri Procházka in a rematch.

White also announced a new co-main event, as former featherweight title challenger Brian “T-City” Ortega meets Diego Lopes.

The card is part of International Fight Week and will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
