Cortney Casey takes quick turnaround for Gillian Robertson
In the recent flurry of fight bouts announced for the UFC, Cortney Casey will get five weeks to train for Gillian Robertson. The fight that Ariel Helwani tweeted was in the works is now official for the newly added top 15 straw weight division. Casey is coming off a submission victory against Romero Borella on May 16.
Casey (9-7-0) is 2-1 in her last three fights with a victory over Angela Hill. Conversely Robertson (3-2-0) hasn’t fought since her October loss to Maycee Barber. A top 15 ranking is on the line for both with both fighters holding 2-1 records in their last three fights. While Robertson is currently on the outside looking in, Casey just cracked the ranks with her recent victory.
Casey was looking for a top 15 opponent after her arm bar victory only five days ago. The quick turnaround comes from Casey ending her fight rather early, not even lasting one round. Recently jumping into the top 15, Casey will take on an American Top Team favorite. And although Casey was looking for a bump in competition, don’t let the lack of rankings fool you. The winner of this fight would certainly see a few ranking spots jumped.
The fight is currently announced for Jun. 20 at UFC Fight Night 174. While no location has been set due to COVID-19 regulations, the UFC has offered a few potential sites for the card.
Fights announced for this card include:
Josh Emmet vs. Shane Burgos
Roxanne Modafferi vs. Lauren Murphy
Cortney Casey vs. Gillian Robertson
