Cris Cyborg runs through Cat Zingano, makes fifth defense of featherweight title at Bellator 300

Bellator MMA returned to us tonight, October 7, 2023, for Bellator 300, going down live from the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.

We had three championship affairs going down tonight at Bellator 300, the main event of which came between lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov (17-0) and no. 4 ranked former lightweight champion Brent Primus (12-3).

Our co-main event of the evening came at 145 lbs between former Strikeforce, Invicta, and UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg (27-2), who looked to make the fifth defense of her Bellator featherweight championship tonight.

Her opponent was fellow UFC veteran Cat Zingano (14-5), who’d gone a perfect 4-0 inside the Bellator cage since her UFC departure.

Official Result: Cris Cyborg def. Cat Zingano via TKO (punches) at 4:01 of round one

Cyborg settles into the fight early, dropping Zingano midway through the opening round. Zingano returns to her feet quickly and ties up with the champion, before they separate and are back to striking range.

Cyborg begins to land that heavy right hand of hers with about 90 seconds left in the opening round, landing three of them. Zingano shoots in on a takedown, falling to the mat as she fails the attempt. Cyborg follows up with ground and pound for her 21st knockout finish.

Cris Cyborg makes the fifth-straight defense of her featherweight championship tonight at Bellator 300 by stopping perhaps the greatest female fighter to have never won a belt.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
