Cub Swanson stuns Daniel Pineda with knockout victory

Daniel Pineda is wasting little time in his second stint with the UFC, finishing Cub Swanson via first-round TKO at UFC 256 this Saturday, Dec. 12.

No matter who is the winner of the UFC 256 main event, Deiveison Figuieredo is making history.

The 125-pound king makes the quickest turnaround ever as a champion against Brandon Moreno inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. It marks the same location where he made his first title defense by submitting Alex Perez in the first round at UFC 255 on Nov. 21.

The former UFC interim champion Tony Ferguson looks to rebound from a fifth-round TKO loss to Justin Gaethje back in May, taking on the surging Charles Oliveira in the co-main event.

A featherweight affair between Cub Swanson and Daniel Pineda is the featured prelim of the evening.

Swanson last fought over a year ago, earning a unanimous decision nod against Kron Gracie at UFC Fight Night 161 in October 2019. The fight snapped a four-fight losing streak for the 37-year-old.

In Pineda’s second stint with the UFC, he surprised the division with a second-round TKO victory over Herberth Burns at UFC 252 in August. Pineda is unbeaten since August 2017, a second-round TKO loss to Georgi Karakhanyan at Bellator 182.

ROUND 1

They tap gloves and here we go. Both men taking their time, Pined a throws a head kick, but Swanson defends. Pineda clinches early. Pineda pops Swanson with a right hand. Pineda ducks under a right hand from Swanson. Pineda lands a leg kick and follows with a right hand. Swanson taking some damage early. Pineda is active. Swanson lands a combination. Pineda lands a right hand, followed by a lead leg kick. Swanson’s leg already showing some redness. Pineda lands a leg kick and slips. Swanson  on top. Pineda looks to attack the leg for a lock, but Swanson escapes and moves to full guard. Pineda looks to attack the arm. Swanson lands a heavy right and Pineda turns for an arm bar. Swanson escaped and they are on the feet. Pineda lands another leg kick. Swanson with a takedown, but Pineda transitions to top. Swanson gets up and stuns Pineda. Both men on their feet. Pineda looks compromised, hanging on the fence. Swanson lands elbows to end the round.

Swanson comes out aggressive. Pineda eats a left and then another right. Pineda misses with a leg kick. Pineda takes another left as he looks to land a leg kick. Pineda drops for a takedown. Swanson is defending against the cage. Swanson peppering Pineda with punches, drops Pineda. Pineda falls back and Swanson gets the finish.
