Cynthia Calvillo previews her upcoming UFC 266 bout with Jessica Andrade
Cynthia Calvillo has a lot going on these days.
The obvious one comes in less than a month when the No. 5 ranked UFC flyweight contender meets former strawweight champion and current No. 1 flyweight contender Jessica Andrade on the main card of UFC 266 on Sept. 25
Aside from the important fight, Calvillo is settling into her new home in Las Vegas. Calvillo, who was born and raised in California, previously stayed in the Golden State and trained at Team Alpha Male and AKA before making the move to the fight capital of the world.
Calvillo decided to make that move due to the UFC’s Performance Institute located at the promotions headquarters in Las Vegas. Recently, Calvillo had shoulder surgery and has been rehabbing at the Performance Institute. After falling in love with the UFC’s state of the art building dedicated to helping the athletes on the UFC roster, Calvillo has decided to train at the Performance Institute, 10th Planet Las Vegas and Xtreme Couture.
Now with a new camp, Calvillo is ready to finally earn a title shot. She first made noise in the strawweight division, but after a few tough weight cuts, she decided to move up to 125 pounds. So far the transition to flyweight has paid off for her as she has spilt fights with two former title challengers and secured a top five ranking.
Prior to her fight at UFC 266, Calvillo spoke to MyMMANews about her upcoming fight with Andrade, her position in the division, her move to Las Vegas and her shoulder surgery. You can watch her full interview in the video above.
