Dan Lambert believes Amanda Nunes should be in the running for greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time
It’s pretty hard to argue Amanda Nunes’ status as the greatest female mixed martial artist of all time. Nunes has been dominate throughout the past few years and she has steamrolled nearly everyone in her path on way to capturing both the UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight title.
Nunes is set to make her first featherweight title defense this Saturday at UFC 250 against Felicia Spencer. If “The Lioness” is to win, she’ll be the woman person UFC history to defend two title successfully. The only other person to accomplish the feat was Daniel Cormier, who successful won and defended the heavyweight and light heavyweight championship.
Given Nunes’ success, Dan Lambert, who owns American Top Team where Nunes trains, believes it’s time to give Nunes a bit more respect. In an interview with MMA Fighting, Lambert said that feels Nunes should be in the talks for the greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time.
“If it’s a conversation on the female GOAT, I don’t think there’s another name you can throw into the mix and have an argument over,” Lambert told MMA Fighting. “Pound-for-pound GOAT is what I think she’s working her way into the mix on. Male, female, weight division, anything. I think her name should be in that mix right now.
“If you look at the run she’s been on, the champions she’s beaten, the ex-champions she’s beaten. The manner in which she’s beaten them and made it look so effortless, two divisions, I think her name should be in that hat with the other all-time greats, Jon Jones, D.C. (Daniel Cormier), GSP (Georges St-Pierre). I think her name is right there in that mix, male or female.”
While Lambert is making the case for Nunes as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of all time, he feels that she is hands down the GOAT of women’s MMA.
“If you just want to look at how good a fighter Holly Holm versus [Valentina] Shevchenko versus [Cris] Cyborg, versus Ronda [Rousey], versus Miesha [Tate], yeah I think Shevchenko is a better fighter than all of them,” Lambert said. “Two wins over Valentina Shevchenko speaks absolute volumes.”
The Amanda Nunes and Felicia Spencer bout will headline this weekend’s pay-per-view from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Nunes comes into the riding a 10 fight win streak.
