Dana White planning an incredible summer schedule including big tripleheader at UFC 227
UFC President Dana White is looking to make the summer of 2018 one of the biggest blockbuster stretches the company has seen in quite some time.
The action will start off with the star-studded UFC 225 in Chicago on June 9, and then followed up by the biggest heavyweight fights of all-time between light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 226.
Also included at UFC 226 will be a featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega, as Holloway looks for his second title defense after winning and defending his title against Jose Aldo in 2017.
That’s just how the UFC is looking to start their summer schedule. Making an appearance on UFC Unfiltered with Jim Norton and Matt Serra, Dana White revealed some late summer plans that only raise the summer excitement.
LISTEN TO DANA WHITE BELOW:
While speaking about the status of Eddie Alvarez’s contract, White said he is talking to Alvarez about his deal and in his head, he’d like to work out the contract situation and rebook the rematch between Alvarez and Dustin Poirier. The two fought last year and due to an accidental knee to Poirier’s head, the fight was ruled a no-contest. White said he is looking to make that fight for UFC on FOX 30, which takes place in Calgary on July 28.
The event falls on the same day as White’s birthday and he said he’s looking to make it a “sick birthday card” that he will be attending.
White then followed up by revealing his hopeful plans for UFC 227 which takes place on August 4, at The Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Already booked for a bantamweight title rematch between Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw, White said he is looking to bring two other star-studded fights to the card. White said he is in discussions for a lightweight fight between Nate Diaz and former welterweight and middleweight champion, Georges St. Pierre.
Diaz hasn’t fought since losing a decision to Conor McGregor at UFC 202 in 2016, while St. Pierre has been on the sidelines with a medical illness after winning and vacating the middleweight title at UFC 217.
The big fight announcement plans didn’t stop there from White who also included that he hopes to book Alexander Gustafsson vs Luke Rockhold also on UFC 227. While there had been rumors of this fight being for an interim light heavyweight title, White insisted that the interim title would not be on the line, but he does want to make the fight happen.
From June through early August, the UFC is looking to schedule an incredible summer, now if only all matchups stay together, fight fans are in for a summer delight.
