Dana White offers advice to Corey Anderson after UFC 244: ‘Take the fights we offer you’

Corey Anderson was not happy entering UFC 244. He believed he deserved a title shot, especially after beating Ilir Latifi at UFC 232. Yet, that never happened and he waited nearly a year to fight again. He turned down a fight against Luke Rockhold for Rockhold’s 205-pound debut, and then he could not come to an agreement for an Alexander Gustafsson fight. So, he was left with fighting Johnny Walker at UFC 244.

It was a fight many pegged Walker to look impressive in and knockout Anderson. But, that is far from what happened as Anderson knocked out Walker in the first round.

Following the fight, UFC president, Dana White sent a message to Anderson.

“He came in here very angry this week,” White said (via MMA Junkie). “All these conspiracy theories: we hate him, we this, that, everything else, and all this cry-baby (expletive). We’re ‘trying to get him beat.’ We can’t get you beat! You can either win or you can’t, you know what I mean? We ‘like Walker better,’ whatever the stuff he was saying. No. Some guys move faster than others.

“You’re telling us what you deserve. Show us what you deserve. Tonight, you showed us. Got it! Message received! Now we know.”

White also believes the win should, at least, get him some more fans.

“Not one person clapped for him at the weigh-ins,” White said. “Walker got a pretty big pop when he came out. I bet people will notice him next time, won’t they? He came out, and he showed everybody. You did something. Now we move on. I’m not saying you’re getting a title shot next or whatever. Reyes just won too – very impressively.”

Even after the win, Corey Anderson was still unhappy and said either give him a title shot or release him. Which, White had a simple message for him about that.

“We’ll figure out what’s next for you, and when your contract is up, if you still don’t want to be here, you can do whatever you want to do,” White said. “In the meantime, take the fights that we offer you. Pretty simple.”
