Max Kellerman, UFC 241: Stipe Miocic KOs Daniel Cormier in the fourth round to regain title

Dana White reveals Daniel Cormier has been offered fights, says he’s only interested in Miocic trilogy

Daniel Cormier has made it loud and clear. He is only interested in fighting Stipe Miocic for the third time and if that doesn’t come to fruition he will retire.

Cormier and Miocic first fought at UFC 226 where it was ‘DC’ who got his hand raised by first-round knockout to become a champ-champ as he claimed the heavyweight belt. The two then rematched at UFC 241 where Cormier has having a ton of success and arguably won all three rounds. Then, in the fourth round, Miocic began attacking the body and scoring a fourth-round TKO.

Since the fight, Miocic has been out with an eye injury and there is no timetable for his return. But, Dana White made it clear the trilogy is what they want to make.

“It’s very clear,” White said of the status of the heavyweight division. “[Miocic] is hurt,” White said to ESPN. “When he’s not, we’ll make the fight. You saw Cormier basically come out and say, ‘Stipe has the ability to retire me. If he doesn’t take this fight, I’m going to retire.’ We’ll see how this thing plays out.”

Although White hopes the trilogy can be made, he did reveal they have offered Daniel Cormier other fights. But, he made it clear it is Miocic or retirement so he hopes the trilogy can happen before DC retires.

“I have offered him other fights,” White said of Cormier. “[But] he feels Stipe is the fight he can get up for. That’s what he wants. And he doesn’t want anyone else. I can’t make him fight anyone else. He needs to do it. I’d like to see that fight happen.”

Daniel Cormier is one of the best fighters of all-time and the trilogy fight would be a great send-off for the AKA product especially if he leaves as the heavyweight champion.
