Dana White says Conor McGregor wants Khabib rematch but willing to fight anybody
Conor McGregor made his long-awaited return to the Octagon when he took on Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. McGregor was looking to reclaim his lightweight belt. However, in the end, Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor by submission in the fourth round.
Since the fight, McGregor has been clamoring for a rematch. But, just today when the UFC released the new belt, he tweeted that he is back. That is something UFC President Dana White hopes will happen.
“It’s one of the main things I love about Conor McGregor,” White said in an Instagram chat. “The belt means a lot to him and being a world champion means everything to him. I love it. … 100 percent (it still means everything to him). 100 percent.”
Although McGregor is coming off of a loss, he does want a rematch which shows his willingness to fight. That is something that White admires of McGregor, that no matter what he is a fighter and wants to fight.
“When a guy starts to make crazy money, life-changing money, and he’s in one of those positions where he’s not just making it from the fights – he’s making it in other businesses that he has going on right now – you find out what people are all about, how passionate they are about what they do, when the money comes,” White said. “Conor and I still communicate regularly and he’s very fired up about coming back and becoming a world champion again.”
Although McGregor wants to come back and fight Nurmagomedov, that may not be the plan. He may have to fight one other fight and if he wins then get another title shot.
“He’ll fight anybody,” White concluded. “Obviously he would love the rematch with Khabib, but he’ll fight anybody.”
No one knows if McGregor will return, or who he will fight if he does. But, if White is saying is true, it appears McGregor may be back in 2019.
