Jon Jones

Dana White says Jon Jones vs. Dominick Reyes is ‘a massive fight’ for light heavyweight champ

Jon Jones is set to defend his light heavyweight title once again in the main event of UFC 247 against Dominick Reyes.

Reyes is undefeated and coming off a knockout win over Chris Weidman and is a true light heavyweight. That, according to UFC president, Dana White, makes this such an interesting fight.

“That’s such a massive fight for Jon Jones,” White said to ESPN. “Dominick Reyes is a bad boy. And young, hungry, this is going to be a very interesting fight for Jon Jones. Dominick Reyes isn’t this big name guy that you know, but if you know fighting, Dominick Reyes is the real deal. And a very tough challenge for Jones. If he gets through this fight, and wins again, Jones is a freak of nature.”

This fight is crucial for Jon Jones career as he could very well move to heavyweight and try and become a champ-champ after this. Yet, White isn’t sure if that will happen.

“I don’t know about him going to heavyweight, I think he’s comfortable at light heavyweight, and every time that you think there’s not another challenger for Jon Jones, there’s another challenger for Jon Jones,” White said. “I don’t know, we’ll have to see how this thing plays out. He has to get through Dominick Reyes first before you even start thinking about heavyweight or anything else.”

Jones is coming off of a split-decision win over Thiago Santos at UFC 239 and before that edged out a decision over Anthony Smith in his first title defense since reclaiming the belt after suspension.

Reyes, meanwhile, has had a very impressive UFC run with a KO win over Weidman and wins over Volkan Oezdemir, Ovince Saint Preux, Jared Cannonier, Jeremy Kimball, and Joachim Christensen. His record shows he is a threat which is why White believes this is such a massive fight.
