Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 5, Week 9 Results
Dana White’s Contender Series back for a another Tuesday night of fights. Tonight’s action will take place from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
In the featured bout of the evening, unbeaten middleweight Gadzhi Omargadhiev takes on Jansey Silva of Brazil.
There is also a huge fight taking place tonight is a bantamweight matchup between two undefeated contenders in Orin Kahlon and Javid Basharat.
Kahlon weighed in at 139 pounds, which is 3 pounds over the bantamweight limit. As a result of the miss, he will be fined 20 percent of his purse and he is also in jeopardy of not getting a contract if he wins. Earlier this season, Jake Hadley became the first fighter in the history of the show to earn a contract despite missing weight.
The weight issue for Kahlon isn’t event the biggest story of the this fight.
Kahlon is from Israel and Basharat is from Afghanistan and at yesterday’s weigh ins, things turned ugly as Kahlon referred to Basharat as a “terrorist.”
The two countries have tensions right now as relations are non-existent ever since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August and ruled out cooperating with Israel.
Tonight’s fight card will also feature four other fights, making tonight’s card a packed six-fight event. UFC president Dana White has been handing out a lot of contracts this season and on last weeks episode, he handed out four contracts to bring this seasons total to 32.
The fight card can will be streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
