After big wins at Titan FC 54, Herbert Burns and Rafael Alves earn spots on Contender Series

Dana White’s Contender Series Week 9 Preview

After four contracts were handed out last week, Dana White’s Contender Series Week 9 is here. The prospect gauntlet always makes for an entertaining night. First, the event begins with American Top Team’s, Danny Sabatello, taking on the experienced, Taylor Moore. Next, a strawweight clash is on deck, when Luana Pinheiro goes against Stephanie Frausto. Next, the lightweight division will feature Nikolos Motta and Joseph Lowry in an exciting match-up. In the co main spot, looking to remain undefeated, Shaheen Santana faces off against Landon Quinones. On top of all that, the event will conclude with Mario Souza versus the undefeated, Mariusz Ksiazkiewicz.

Danny Sabatello vs. Taylor Moore

Sabatello enters the bout as the more active fighter, most recently competing in June of 2020. Conversely, Moore’s career has a few gaps of inactivity, and has not competed since last year. However, he is riding a three-fight win streak, and Moore will look to stack his second finish in a row on Tuesday. In his way,  the Titan FC vet, Sabatello comes into the fight with several finishes on his resume. Also, Sabatello is coming off two submission wins over Raymond Ramos and Chris Johnson. While Sabatello’s record looks nice, Moore’s experience gained through amateur fights will help in spades.

Luana Pinheiro vs. Stephanie Frausto

Coming in with a pristine record, Pinheiro has a clear path to victory against Frausto. In light of all the losses Frausto has sustained on the mat, it stands to reason she struggles with ground defense. Since half of her losses have come from either submission or ground and pound, Pinheiro definitely has a style advantage in this fight. Even so, the American Frausto’s path to victory lies in establishing distance and keeping the fight standing. In the event that a finish occurs, the strawweight division will be getting an injection of talent.

Nikolos Motta vs. Joseph Lowry

Competing in 2018 on Dana White’s Contender Series, Lowry is looking to redeem his last performance, where he lost by TKO via elbows. Now, with his second chance on the UFC Contender Series Week 8, Lowry goes against the dangerous Motta. Consequently, Motta is dangerous by virtue of of his striking. The Brazillian has a win over UFC lightweight, Joeseph Solecki by way of knockout. Despite Lowry fighting more recently, Motta’s violent style has transferred even when returning from a layoff.

Shaheen Santana vs. Landon Quinones

Fighting out of Sanford MMA, Quinones will look to halt the undefeated ground artist, Santana. Acquiring a 6-0 record, Santana has also fought on the amateur scene. Anytime “undefeated” is attached to an athlete’s name, the bout most certainly garners a lot of attention. Since each competitor has amassed amateur and professional fights, fans are in store for an electric lightweight attraction. Quinones’s finishing instinct is key to victory against Santana. This Tuesday we find out if Quinones has what it takes to derail the next undefeated prospect.

Mario Souza vs. Mariusz Ksiazkiewicz

In the featured main event of the Contender Series Week 8, Souza will attempt to implore his finishing ability against Ksiazkiewicz. A tally in Souza’s corner is the pattern of inactivity from Ksiazkiewicz. While ring rust affects fighters differently, it’s important to note that the Canadian has had a few long lay-offs. Most notably, taking 2014-2016 off for the most part. Despite the absence, Ksiazkiewicz has remained an undefeated force. Ultimately, Souza’s well-roundedness will be Ksiazkiewicz’s biggest test to date. Keep it dialed in at MyMMANews.com for all your fighting needs, results and more!
