Daniel Cormier explains why he won’t fight “entitled” Stipe Miocic

Former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic made some waves by recently releasing a video where he talked at length about his newborn daughter and his loss to Daniel Cormier. After setting the record for the most consecutive heavyweight title defenses, Miocic was defeated by Cormier at UFC 226 which saw Cormier become the second-ever two-weight world champion.

Cormier became the UFC’s heavyweight champion while holding claim to the light heavyweight champion as well, and has been open about his pending retirement which had been set for March of this year, but now is anything but concrete. UFC President Dana White recently said on ESPN not only does he believe that Cormier has three fights left in him, but that he also believes Cormier will face his bitter rival Jon Jones in a trilogy fight between the two.

As the future is still being worked out for Cormier, his former opponent Miocic is calling for a rematch. In the video where Miocic talks about losing to Cormier, he says he feels that “D.C.” owes it to him to give him a rematch and that winning the belt doesn’t even matter to him.

While Miocic’s comments drew plenty of attention from the MMA community most of which were fans of his honesty, the current heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier didn’t seem to be in the same mindset as Miocic. Cormier responded to Miocic at first on Twitter by saying he doesn’t owe anything to anyone, but said it in a much more colorful way.

After asking fans if they wanted to know why he wouldn’t fight Miocic again, Cormier responded with three reasons, one of which being that he feels Miocic is entitled. The comment about him being entitled would draw a response from the former champion who called out Cormier for avoiding a fight with him at UFC 230.

Cormier would go on to release a photo of a confrontation between him and Brock Lesnar, seemingly hinting that he is targeting Lesnar as his next opponent, which has been the thought since he defeated Miocic last July. There has been no fight made for Daniel Cormier as of now, and no confirmation that Lesnar is indeed returning to the UFC.
