Daniel Cormier gives hint about possible Stipe Miocic trilogy

When the UFC gets back to a regular schedule, it appears there could be two title fights on the same card later this year. Current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman hosted an Instagram Live chat on Friday and during his stream, former heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier appeared as a guest.

Cormier has not fought since losing the heavyweight title to champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 241 in 2019, a rematch from their first fight in 2018 in which “DC” defeated Miocic in the first round. The heavyweight division has been put on hold as Miocic recovers from an eye injury and Cormier awaits the champion to get healthy so they can have a trilogy, but that holdup may be coming to an end sooner than later.

During his conversation with Usman, Cormier revealed that negotiations are ongoing for a trilogy fight against Miocic and things could be ideal for the final fight of his career.

“Look, I know we’re in a crazy time right now with the world and with the way things are and it’s very up in the air but I think for me with the way things are going and the discussion that we had heading into the fight, into all this, the way that the discussions in terms of the fight were going, where I am going to fight this guy for my last fight, it’s going to be as ideal for me as I could ever hope for. It’s gonna be beautiful.” (h/t MMA Fighting)

Cormier would then go on to reveal that he and Usman may be on the same card, telling the welterweight champion that may be spending a lot more time together.

“I know people like getting scoops, and I think if I’m guessing, I think the way things are falling you and I are may be spending more time together than most people believe.”

UFC President Dana White hinted earlier this year that Usman could defend his title against Jorge Masvidal during International Fight Week this summer, but Cormier could not reveal a date or location for a possible fight card.

“Obviously we can’t say a date and time yet but it is looking like you and I shall and will be sharing aparty and I think that’s going to be a good thing.”

While fights are currently on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, it appears talks are heading in the right direction for a trilogy fight between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.
