Daniel Cormier releases statement following UFC 252 loss to Stipe Miocic: ‘Been a helluva ride’
Daniel Cormier has released his first statement since losing to Stipe Miocic at UFC 252.
In the main event of the card, Miocic and Cormier were having their trilogy for the heavyweight title. It was also going to be Cormier’s retirement fight and he wanted to end his career on top. Not many people in any sports retire on top and ‘DC’ was looking to enter elite company.
Yet, that isn’t what happened as Miocic defended his belt by unanimous decision. Following his loss, Daniel Cormier took to social media to issue a statement on the fight and his career.

“Thank you all for the love and support. Not what I wanted or expected but it is what it is. Congrats to @stipemiocic on a fantastic fight, was an honor and pleasure to share the octagon with you for 50 minutes,” Cormier wrote. “Boy did we give ‘em a show everytime. To my team: I love you all to death, you’ve made so many sacrifices. I hope I made you guys proud. Salina and the kids: thank you for being my motivation. To all the fans: I love you so much. You guys push me to try and be great. To @danawhite and the @ufc: I have loved every minute. Thank you for giving me the opportunity. Been a helluva ride, huh?”
Even though Daniel Cormier did not end his career on top, if this is it, he ends his career as one of the all-time greats. He was the light heavyweight heavyweight champion and only lost to Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. Jones is widely considered as the greatest fighter of all-time with Miocic being the greatest heavyweight of all-time.
Cormier does end his career on a two-fight losing streak but did beat the likes of Josh Barnett, Frank Mir, Alexander Gustafsson, Stipe Miocic, and Anthony Johnson among others. His legacy is secured and he can now focus on his commentating and media jobs.
