Daniel Marcos spoils Davey Grant’s homecoming with razor-thin split decision win at UFC London

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us today, July 22, 2023, for our second UFC London event of the year.

Headlining the event is a matchup of heavyweight contenders, as no. 5 ranked Tom Aspinall (12-3) takes on no. 10 ranked Marcin Tybura (24-7) in the main event of the evening.

Co-headlining the event is a 125 lb affair between former Cage Warriors flyweight champion Molly McCann (13-5) and former Invicta FC bantamweight champion Julija Stoliarenko (10-7-2).

Opening up the main card today was a bantamweight showdown between Davey Grant (15-7) and Daniel Marcos (15-0). Grant came into today’s bout on a two-fight finish streak, while Marcos won his lone promotional bout via knockout earlier this year in January.

This was Davey Grant’s first fight in his home country in over seven years; he defeated current no. 6 ranked Marlon Vera in that bout to secure his first official UFC victory.

Official Result: Daniel Marcos def. Davey Grant via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)

The two trade leg kicks early on in the opening round, with Grant getting the better of the exchanges while controlling the center of the octagon through the first five minutes.

Marcos has a better round two, as he’s able to bloody Grant’s nose with peppering shots, though he’s still eating some hard looping hooks and overhands that Grant loves to throw.

Grant was also throwing a lot of hook kicks and sidekicks through the opening ten minutes, though he tightened it up a bit in the third and final round. He was still pressing the action, landing heavy body shots and solid leg kicks throughout. Marcos secures a takedown with 30 seconds left in the bout, though Grant immediately returns to his feet and the two throw down until the final bell.

Over the course of these last four fights, English fighters have gone 1-3 with Mick Parkin defeating Jamal Pogues, Marc Diakiese losing to Joel Alvarez, Danny Roberts losing to Johny Parsons, and now Davey Grant losing to Daniel Marcos.

Daniel Marcos remains undefeated with this victory over Davey Grant at UFC London.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
