After holding three events in the span of eight days in Jacksonville, Florida, the UFC returns to Las Vegas, Nevada for UFC on ESPN 9 tonight, Saturday, May 30.

Both fighters touch gloves and Rodriguez is first to commit, pumping his jab and mixing in the straight hands. Green also starts pumping his own jab to gauge his distance. The two mix it up, exchanging combinations with nothing significant landing. Green attempts a head kick which misses its mark. Green is attempting to strike from a distance, but finds himself circling against the cage. Rodriguez stays behind his jab and Green fires another left head kick that Rodriguez has his hands up for but the kick partially makes it through to its mark. Rodriguez immediately fires back with some 1-2 combinations that find their target. The two get into a brief exchange with Rodriguez landing punches to the head and Green firing a kick to the body on the way out. Green smiles the attacks off as Rodriguez remains behind is straight punches. Green lands a hard body kick. Green goes for the 3rd head kick which misses it’s mark and Rodriguez loads up with heavy punches in return. Rodriguez continues dictating the pace with the jab. Green blitzes forward as the two get into a heated exchange. Green stays on the attack coming forward to walk his opponent down with nothing landing significantly. Green starts to slow the pace, attempting to stay on the outside and work behind his kicks, landing well to the body. With under a minute left, Rodriguez takes control, making Green miss while Rodriguez lands beautiful counter attacks.

Both fighters touch gloves and Rodriguez gets right back to action staying behind his 1-2 combo’s. Green attacks to the body with a kick to the midsection followed by a leg kick. Rodriguez lands again with the 1-2 as Green throws the body kick. Rodriguez backs Green up against the fence and lands with explosive straight punches. Green jabs his way off the fence only to be met Rodriguez’ straight punches. Green continues to eat the punches as he puts the pressure on, landing his own punches as well in a heated scuffle. Rodriguez backs against the fence, momentarily, slipping Greens non stop attempts to pressure him into a dog fight. Green continues to keep the heat on Rodriguez with Rodriguez evading any severe damage. Green fires a knee to the midsection and in a misstep, trips slightly forward, giving Rodriguez open range for a massive left hook to the head while Green had his back turned. Green fires right back with a straight right off the fence. Green doesn’t skip a beat, pressing the action forward. Green shoots a leg kick with little impact. Green lands a flying knee to Rodriguez’ mid section. Rodriguez stays on is pedals, going backward attempting to jab to keep the fight at bay. The two clinch against the fence momentarily. Rodriguez stays behind his straight punches, but Green stays after his taller foe with his own punches. Green shoots a front kick, pushing Rodriguez to the fence where the two clash for a moment before resuming center cage. With a minute left in the round both fighters trade one two combinations. Green continues to walk Rodriguez to keep ring control.

The fighters touch gloves to begin the final 5 minutes. Green moves forward pumping his jab. Rodriguez keeps a heavy pressure, staying in front of Rodriguez and cutting angles, and throwing non stop strikes. Mixing it up from boy kicks, to punches upstairs, Green is relentless. Rodriguez is losing momentum. Green forces the fight against the cage as he comes forward with some more punches upstairs. Rodriguez is able to stay behind his own punches and circle out to start landing some punches of his own. Green marches forward without much strike output and Rodriguez turns the switch on, landing heavy straight punches followed by vicious left hooks. Green walks forward throwing headkicks, jabs, everytihing except the kitchen sink. Rodriguez fights smart and stays outside of any damage, and steps in for calculated heavy punches. Green continues on the attack, and looks to switch levels for the takedown with 30 seconds. Rodriguez is pressed up against the fence. Rodriguez fends it off easily as the two get off the fence. Rodriguez slips one last Hail Mary hook from Green and scores the takedown where he keeps the bout for the remaining seconds.
