Danielle Kelly finds comedy in Angela Lee’s submission talk
Danielle Kelly is one of grappling’s biggest stars, man or woman. Recently signed to the ONE Championship banner, Kelly has been competing under the promotion’s grappling rules, but remains optimistic that she will one day transition to mixed martial arts.
There have often been talks of ONE Championship’s long-reigning atomweight MMA queen, Angela Lee, competing against Kelly in a submission grappling bout.
Lee believes she could submit Kelly in a grappling match, but Kelly finds that prediction laughable.
“I see it ending in me submitting her,” Lee, 26, told the promotion according to a report from Tom Taylor of the South China Morning Post. “For me, I mean, I’ve been fighting for a while now. And obviously, you hope for the best-case scenario.
“But one thing that I trust in myself is I always get the job done – and it doesn’t matter what amount of time it’ll take, but [it will] definitely [happen] before the round ends.”
Kelly then took to social media to post her response.
“Some comedy for today,” the 25-year-old wrote in a post to her Instagram story, which included a screenshot of Lee’s remark.
While Lee may be coming off a successful title defense at 115-pounds, she has her eyes set on claiming ‘Champ-Champ’ status by claiming a second world title. To do so, Lee will have to have a third fight against Jignan Xiong (17-2) who currently holds the ONE strawweight title.
Neither Lee or Kelly currently have a match scheduled so it is uncertain as to which route the promotion will go in booking their champion.
Who do you think would win this fantastic grappling matchup?
