Angela Lee (11-2) is arguably ONE Championship‘s top star. Recently charged with headlining the promotion’s 10-year celebration fight card, ONE: X, Lee proved with a second-round submission win over Stamp Fairtex, that it will take a special type of atomweight fighter to take her title.
While Lee may be coming off a successful title defense at 115-pounds, she has her eyes set on claiming ‘Champ-Champ’ status by claiming a second world title. To do so, Lee will have to have a third fight against Jignan Xiong (17-2) who currently holds the ONE strawweight title.
“I definitely want to capture the strawweight belt, so I’d love to fight Xiong again and step up to strawweight and try to capture that champ-champ status.
“Also, there’s a lot of atomweights in the division now, so I’d love to keep defending my title, but I’d like to see the strawweight division grow, just like the atomweight division has grown.”
Lee and Xiong each hold a win over one another in ONE world title fights, with both athletes earning dramatic fifth-round finishes.
In March 2019, Xiong retained her strawweight gold with a knockout of “Unstoppable.” And in their rematch later that year, Lee submitted the Chinese icon via rear-naked choke to defend her atomweight belt.
Xiong is coming off a unanimous decision win over Ayaka Miura in January. She is currently riding a three-fight win streak since her loss to Lee in 2019.
What do you say fight fans, do you want to see a trilogy bout between Angela Lee and Xiong Jing Nan?
