Darren Till teases a move to light heavyweight

Darren Till has been on the move up the UFC rankings since he debuted in the organization back in 2015. “The Gorilla” began his run at welterweight and with a few bumps along the way in the form of missed weight, Till put together five wins on his way to a title shot. The missed weight and harsh weight cuts led Till to make his way up to middleweight. Now with just two fights at 185 pounds, Till may be moving up again. Till teased a further run at light heavyweight on his social media.

“I have decided to go to light heavyweight,” Till put on his personal Instagram.

Till released footage of his weight cut leading up to the fight with Stephen Thompson at UFC Liverpool back in 2018 that showed the trouble he has to go through to make weight. He missed weight for that fight by four and a half pounds but came away with the victory. It seemed that all his weight cuts were a problem, hence the move to middleweight.

At middleweight, Darren Till has proven that he can hang with the big boys. He defeated Kelvin Gastelum in his middleweight debut and then took on the former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker. Till lost that bout against Whittaker, but is still in the top ten of the division. Till most recently have a fight lined up against Jack Hermansson, however Till was removed from the bout due to injury. Being so close to the top of the division and a potential shot at champion Isreal Adesanya, it seems a strange time to make another jump up in weight.

If this move to light heavyweight is the real deal then that will open up many interesting options. The 205-pound division has recently opened up with a new champion and Jon Jones making that move to heavyweight.
