Darrion Caldwell talks Leandro Higo fight, UFC 262 & Sergio Pettis

Lenny March from MyMMANews got the chance to talk to former Bellator bantamweight Darrion Caldwell about his upcoming fight at Bellator 259 against Leandro Higo.

Bellator 259 will take place on May 21. In the main event, women’s featherweight champion and pioneer Cris Cyborg will put her gold on the line against UFC vet Leslie Smith. In the co-headliner, former bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell will go head to head with Leandro Higo in a pivotal match that could lead to title implications next.

In the interview above, Lenny and Caldwell talk about the following:

– Fight against Higo at Bellator 259

– Reason why he’s dropped back down to bantamweight

– Teammate Michael Chandler fighting for UFC lightweight title

– Sanford MMA

– Sergio Pettis’ win over Juan Archuleta

Caldwell (15-4 MMA, 12-3 BMMA) decided he needed a change in his career, so in January Caldwell made the decision and moved to Sanford MMA in South Florida after years of training in Southern California.

His new teammate Michael Chandler will fight this weekend for the UFC lightweight championship: here’s what Caldwell had to say about the matchup.

”he’s been looking phenomenal.. if I could describe what he looks like he’s looking damn near immortal…obviously there is a lot of footage on Michael (Chandler) but it’s just different when you are in front of him and Oliveira will feel that come Saturday.”

Knockout or submission?

Caldwell responded: “He’s definitely going to put hands on him and knock him out”

Darrion Caldwell will participate in the co-main event at Bellator 259 against Leandro Higo, here is his thoughts on Higo as a fighter:

”He’s still the same guy…still the same bum I know. He can’t f*** with me you know? He’s still the same scrub…”

So why did Caldwell drop back down to bantamweight after a short stint at featherweight?

”Because I’m the bantamweight king” Caldwell stated.
